First Quarter, 2005: Study of Fashion Dolls
Interesting links to online information about fashion dolls:
High Heels Newsletter - Vintage and retro fashion dolls. Archive section has some very good articles about fashion dolls. It does not look like this site is currently being updated.
Tonner Doll Company - Official website of Tonner Doll Company, Inc., maker of Tyler Wentworth and family, Betsy McCCall, Ann Estelle by Mary Engelbreit Collection and Kitty Collier collection. Check the archive for past collections. Good site with wonderful photos.
Effanbee Doll Company - Information about Brenda Starr and Daphne Dimples, 16 inch fashion dolls. In 2002, Robert Tonner Doll Company acquired Effanbee from bankruptcy. This is also a good place to find photos of the current and past collections.
Haute Doll - Haute Doll magazine information, and lovely dolls.
January 20, 2005: at Cozy Diner
12:00 Noon - No host lunch. This means that you order what you want from the menu and you pay for what you order.
1:30 pm: Introduction to the Study of Fashion Dolls, by Arleen.
LIke many other aspects of doll collecting, the term Fashion Doll can mean different things to different people. This program will explore the history of fashion dolls, the terminology that is used to define a fashion doll, and a brief overview and time line of fashion dolls from antique to contemporary.
You are encouraged to bring your dolls to this program, so we will have many examples to look at as we go through the overview and time line, and decide upon a proper definition (if there is such a thing!) of a fashion doll. We need examples of antique, vintage and contemporary dolls - both child and adult versions.
