For many years Iris made cloth dolls as gifts for her family and friends. Her grandchildren were a special inspiration. Iris wanted to share these dolls with our club, but since she had given most of them away, this meant asking the doll owners to temporarily return them to her. At our January meeting, Iris had two full tables of delightful dolls to share. The dolls in these photos are representative of her work and were photographed in Iris' home.
Beautiful embroidery work adorns this doll - a kit Iris purchased and completed.
Such a cute couple - wonder if Andy knows? The boy was made from a printed fabic panel.
Bubba and Sis:
Much loved by her grandchildren. Sis made a quick exit from her bath to be in the photo. It looks like Bubba got a BB gun for Christmas, and has already shot his eye out.
The triplets from France, normally a lively trio, had difficulty sitting still for their portrait. The doll in the middle finally managed to make the other two sit quietly, and then agreed to pose for her own special portrait on the left.
Holly Hobbie, a lucky girl with an extensive wardrobe, hesitatingly agreed to let us see the writing on her tush - "Christmas 1991. Made with love especially for Amelia."
All of Iris' dolls have a similar identification mark.
Ah! These two ladies on the left are very special indeed, with four layers of fabric making up their skirts and petticoats. Wonderful details on these dolls, and beautifully made. Iris said that she made several of these; the lady on the right was made with a different head shape, and Iris thought it did not suit her as well as the head shape on the doll on the left. These dolls are a delight to hold and photograph.
Barbie doll below, dressed in a bridal gown that Iris made.
Obviouly not a doll, but a stunning example of Iris' needlework.
Mrs. Beasley was feeling neglected, but it made her feel better when she was asked to pose on the end of the sofa . A recent purchase, she is a reproduction, minus her glasses (she just couldn't remember where she had put them).
This duo brings on the giggles. Especially the one on the left, with her smug little smile. She KNOWS she's cute even when she's having a bad hair day.
