Just About Dolls: July 18, 2002 Meeting and Doll Info
Boy Dolls by Walda
Boy dolls have a special place in the hearts of many collectors, and they are often made to depict a favorite theme of boyhood - sailing a boat, playing ball, acting cute or making a mess. Walda has been a doll collector and doll maker for many years, and many boy dolls have won her affection, as evidenced by the dolls that she brought to share with the club.
Walda is reaching to pick up the modern replica Hebee and Shebee dolls. In 1925, Horsman first produced these dolls in both compostion and bisque. They were designed by Charles H. Twelvetrees, who was a cartonnist and illustrator, and based on his Twelvetrees Kids which were featured in the Pictorial Review and other newspapers during the years before 1925. The underware is typically molded on these dolls, as are the pink and blue booties worn by the dolls.
